There is a well known book in the cooperate world titled “Blue Ocean Strategy”. It describes famous theorem of Red Ocean and Blue Ocean. It is a book that describes the competition in the modern world so nicely. It is said human tend to create a red ocean around them in what ever the field that they involved. We all have the natural drive to become the first and victorious. Keeping that in our minds we will not be afraid to cut others throats creating an ocean of blood around us. Of course the winner will swim across and become victorious in others eyes. Yet that person carries the filthy smell of others blood ,pain and agony which will not go away from that person. It is very common for us to see many red oceans around us. Yet what is a “Blue Ocean”?
Year 2012 I got selected to be a staff member in a developing school in my vicinity. It had one tall building and another under construction. What I’ve heard from the outside about the college was there is a very strict priest who is trying his best to develop it. Of course I became an eye witness to that , a priest who is like another hand of a clock will do the things exact on time , exactly on 6.30 am he will come out to go around the college , will come in front to see that children come in order, who will begin the school exactly on time without feeling tired climb all the stairs around and walk along all the corridors of the college when teachers getting ready to start the classes. Who put his nose to every little thing that is happening in the college and get the information correctly. With all these work he will not forget to go around all the corridors again before the end of the school to see that teachers were in alert through out the day, of course not only children teachers and parents also shivered in his sight.Yes he is a very strict priest!!
Dear Reverend Father Sudath Gunatileke, yes that is all I new when I came into this school, yet I was fortunate enough to work with you to understand your sacrifices to fulfill your vision. It is your novel way of thinking which created a developing school into “a well known Catholic school in Negombo area” which any one can compare with the ones around with hundreds of years of proud history and sometimes commented far more better than them. How have you achieved this? Within a short history of ten years. It is human nature to misunderstand , which occurs through out in your life yet I know most of the staff members understood you have created a “Blue Ocean” inside the college which will allow them to stride forward facing any storm.
“A blue ocean where many swim across to become a winner , many talented swimmers carefully nurtured and strengthened and guided to go forward in their fullest strength , yet they all know that there will be one winner. Still they enjoy the competitiveness without cutting others throats. Instead create memories which will last long with their lives and it is a clear blue ocean for them to swim forward”
We are eternally thankful for you about creating this college in such a manner , As former leader of Singapore once said what you have lost is Ten years of your valuable life , yet what you have gained “A college which any one can not build even in hundred years which will carry your name as the first and unforgettable Rector of the St. Joseph’s College – Negombo Branch”
