Colombo, March 20 (Daily Mirror) – The government’s decision to arrest deserters from the security forces on the basis of having links with underworld is unreasonable, SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa said today.
He told Parliament that it is not reasonable to consider all deserters from the security forces as having links with the underworld and arrest them as a whole.
The MP said there may be some in the security forces who commit wrong doings and that there is no issue implementing the law against such individuals.
He said the government must have a broad discussion on deserters from the security forces and added that they must be granted permission to legally discharge.
The MP said the government can formulate a monitoring process on such individuals.
