Another special day of the Easter season, today is known as Alleluia Saturday. On Good Friday, Christ was crucified, killed, and buried in a rock, and rose from the dead on this night.
As a long-standing custom, people dressed in black to symbolize demons, parade through the streets, carrying green branches, and dance.
Although this custom has been going on annually in the Negombo Duwa area for some time, the church has now informed the public that the behavior of demons should not be turned into a celebration.
Accordingly, residents of the area say that the Yak dances that were held on Saturdays like today in the Duwa area will not be held.
